Mary Beth and I are so excited to be hosting our first 5K! The event is near and dear to our hearts as we have both seen the detrimental effects of Parkinson’s on my father, Raul Yzaguirre. We would love to show my father the love and support that our community has to offer, so please come out and join us at Watkins Park on July 30th! All proceeds will be donated to the Michael J. Fox Foundation whose mission is:

The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research (MJFF) accelerates high-impact science through smart risk taking and problem solving with a commitment to urgency and efficiency to help speed a cure for Parkinson’s.

A brief bio of my father:

Raul Yzaguirre is a local Mt. Airy resident of 40 years with an internationally recognized career in civil rights. From organizing high school walkouts, leading the largest constituency-based Hispanic organization in the nation, receiving numerous awards such as the Aztec Eagle award from the President of Mexico and the Rockefeller Public Service Award for Outstanding Public Service, and becoming the U.S. Ambassador to the Dominican Republic, the Honorable Yzaguirre has led an influential life. He first noticed a shaking in his thumb in 1999 and was diagnosed with Parkinsons in 2001.
